Global Peace Bank has made a book purchase, the proceeds of which will support communities affected by natural disasters. Mr. Argaw Ayale, the manager of Global Peace Bank, visited Addis Ababa, where the book was published and released to the market. After an extensive discussion with the esteemed author, Dr. Tesfaye Beljige, he finalized the purchase of books worth 100,000 Birr.

During the discussion, Mr. Argaw stated, “The book centers on indigenous knowledge, wisdom, and democratic practices, while also highlighting alternative ideas for conflict resolution. As such, it is a significant knowledge resource containing numerous ideas that Global Peace Bank can utilize for peacebuilding. It will be a valuable asset for the practical conflict resolution approaches our organization pursues.” He added, “Beyond the content of the book, the entire proceeds from its sales will be used to support communities affected by the landslide disaster in the Gofa Zone. This aligns with Global Peace Bank’s humanitarian support plan.” He also urged other governmental and non-governmental institutions, investors, and individuals to foster a culture of mutual support.

Mr. Argaw continued, “Given that our country is home to accomplished historians, intellectuals, and political scholars, if everyone contributes according to their capacity by preserving knowledge through books for the next generation, we will struggle to address our challenges with indigenous wisdom and knowledge.” He also mentioned that during their time with the author, they discussed the establishment, vision, goals, and future direction of Global Peace Bank, as well as collaborative ideas for peacebuilding in depth.

The book’s author, Dr. Tesfaye Beljige, remarked, “The topics covered in the book are crucial as we work to build a democratic culture in Ethiopia and pursue a positive national path to peace. Since democracy and peace are inseparable, and Global Peace Bank primarily focuses on peace, the book contains numerous ideas that align with the institution’s objectives for dialogue, discussion, and peacebuilding efforts.” He emphasized that since democracy and peace are interdependent and mutually reinforcing, they should be broadly promoted. He added that the book’s other contents also pave the way for discussions on national issues. Dr. Tesfaye expressed gratitude for the purchase and the opportunity for discussion, wishing the bank success in its endeavors.
