Global Peace Bank donated books to the Journalism and Communication Department of Hawassa University. The GPB, Mr. Argaw Ayele, handed over 33 books valued at approximately 30,000 Birr at the main campus. The donation ceremony was attended by the Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Dr. Zeleke Arficho, the Head of the Journalism Department, Mr. Eyayu Alemayehu, and department instructors.
During the event, Mr. Argaw Ayele stated, “This support is part of a mutual commitment made under a prior memorandum of understanding. By donating locally published books, we aim to promote indigenous knowledge, history, and morals to the new generation. These books, alongside academic resources, will particularly benefit journalism and communication students and researchers.” He added that such support will continue, with plans to coordinate additional reference materials from local and international partners for the department’s library.
Dr. Zeleke Arficho expressed gratitude for the donation, noting, “This contribution is a commendable example that supports and enhancement of the library for our newly established Journalism and Communication Department’s Library. We hope others will follow this example and provide similar support. The books, with their diverse content and perspectives, will play a significant role as educational and reference resources, and we deeply appreciate this effort. “Mr. Eyayu Alemayehu, Head of the Department, remarked, “We value our collaborative efforts with Global Peace Bank. Today’s book donation will greatly support our students and instructors in research and knowledge acquisition. We consider this gift a significant milestone in our department’s history.”The ceremony took place at the new department library on the main campus and concluded with a group commemorative photograph.
