The municipality of Qey Afer town of the Benna-Tsemay wereda of the South Omo Zone has issued a permit for a hectare of land to Global Peace Bank to be used for building the Lower Omo Peoples Cultural Center for Reconciliation and Peace Building.
The land encompasses the site where Ato Argaw Ayele , manager of Global Peace Bank, and Ato Ma'ekel Malko, Chief Administrator of the South Omo Zone of the South Ethiopia Region had laid the ground stone for the building on June 29, 2024.
The building of the Lower Omo Peoples Cultural Center for Reconciliation and Peace Building is one of the projects being undertaken by Global Peace Bank in accordance with its core objective of using indigenous mechanisms of peace building, peace promotion and reconciliation.
The Lower Omo peoples are composed of over 15 pastoral and agro-pastoral communities who have preserved a large part of their indigenous social order in Ethiopia.
